He's only 25, but Al Jefferson is a legend in Prentiss, MS. The 6'10 NBA forward grew up there, won a state title at Prentiss High School in 2003 and now has his name etched in hardwood.
On Wednesday Jefferson-Davis County school officials unveiled the new 'Al Jefferson court' in the gymnasium at Prentiss High School. "I walked in yesterday, saw the floor and got choked up, that means a lot." says Jefferson. "It shows they appreciate what I have done here."
Big Al, as he's affectionately known in his hometown, is back for his 2nd annual basketball camp. Along with the free camp, he hosts a family fun day, donates food to families and puts on a back-to-school concert.
"Everyone still treats me like I never left, I love coming home." says Jefferson
It's been a busy off-season for Jefferson, who entered the NBA straight out of high school. He was traded recently from the Minnesota Timberwolves to perennial playoff team, the Utah Jazz.
"I feel like it's a new beginning." says Jefferson. "They're going to bring out the beast that's been inside of me for so long."
